3 Critical Mindsets to Adopt for Effective Social Media Marketing

3 Critical Mindsets to Adopt for Effective Social Media MarketingThis is a continuation of my first post on social media marketing for your business, you can read this post here if you haven’t already: Social Media-the New Way of Doing Business

If you are willing to take a relationship-centric approach to building your network marketing business, you will likely emerge as a leader in this industry. One such way of best utilizing this approach is with social media.

Here are the 3 Critical Mindsets to adopt with your social media marketing:

  • generosity
  • vulnerability
  • candor

Whenever you interact with others online, keep these characteristics in mind, if you are adopting these, you will no doubt develop meaningful interactions. Two-way relationships are key. Just like building a relationship, you want to get involved in what’s being said, you want to listen empathetically and look to give more than you get. This will develop into lasting, loyal relationships that will make introducing your business or services with others effortlessly.

Generosity

Let’s face it, web 2.0 is a very noisy space, but leading with generosity grabs people’s attention and makes them take notice of you. Your goal is to make your online friend’s lives easier. Provide free useful information and get them thinking, asking questions, interacting and wanting to learn more. Just remember the “70-20-10″ rule.

Studies indicate new customers and prospects need to be touched by 5 pieces of content or interactions before they decide to buy or join you in anything.

Always remember to listen, as it is a prerequisite to giving. If you don’t learn about your prospect or potential customer, how are you able to effectively give back?

Vulnerability

This is all about having the courage to be yourself and to be personal. A great way to get others involved and engaged with your business is to take polls and get their opinions on ways you could creatively market your products and services.

Ask questions about anything….i.e. ask your followers that you need new music for your iPod for working out, then ask what genre of music is best to work out to, or ‘what is your favorite sports team and why?’-then share your favorite team and explain why.  Anything that gets the conversation going and which you can share a little more about yourself at the same time.

Also share your frustrations in life, share what you are thankful for, tell others your plans for the weekend, etc. The key is to open up and be relatable to your followers and friends.

Candor

This is the freedom to be honest and engage in healthy, caring, purposeful criticism as part of a 2-way conversation. By doing this you will increase loyalty in those that follow you. Listening to others is important here as it will help you understand where they are coming from and allow you to adapt your interactions more effectively.

For example, someone you just met begins to notice that you are part of a network marketing business and may comment that they had a bad experience with MLM. Dig deeper and continue the conversation in a caring way and validate their concerns while at the same time highlighting your positive experiences with your business. Others will take notice and join the conversation.

If you maintain these 3 mindsets with your online interactions, your relationships will have lasting meaning and ultimately your business will be transformed as people will eventually “know, like and trust you” and will naturally want to do business with you.

Are you LinkedIn? Learn How to Leverage This Powerful and Free Social Media Strategy

Are you LinkedIn? Learn How to Leverage This Powerful and Free Social Media StrategyLinkedIn is a social community, but unlike Facebook, it is a network of professionals. It is very powerful since it represents over 150 countries and over 170 different industries. The average household income of LinkedIn members is $109,000/year.

Watch this quick video for an overview of LinkedIn, then read the rest of the post:

Because this is a community of professionals, the rules are a little different than Facebook. However, the leads you generate will be highly targeted and highly qualified.

I am assuming with my recommendations that the results you want to achieve from LinkedIn are to attract others and/or increase traffic to your website and provide value to others. (See my post on Attraction Marketing). If you are trying to land a job or pitch your business opportunity or push your products/services, then the following advice will not work for you.

I personally have found tremendous success in social media marketing by giving immense value freely to other network marketers which creates an attraction to learn more and stay connected, all the while building a relationship and trust. Since we all come from different backgrounds and experiences, I am a firm believer that we can always learn from one another and help each other out. If you believe this as well, then my suggestions will work incredibly well for you.

PROFILE CREATION POINTERS

First off, make sure your LinkedIn profile reflects how you want others to perceive you. Give it personality and make it known to others what you are most passionate about. LinkedIn profiles rank high in search engines when someone googles your name, so take your time with this process.

So here goes….

Company:

If possible avoid putting your current MLM company here. If you have a branded website (generic) or generic blog, that is preferred. The reason for this is that others who come to your site may automatically make assumptions about your company or industry.

Profile Picture:

Make sure it is a professional one. It does not have to be studio quality, but make it one that you would include on a resume.

Recommendations:

Ask one of your current connections to do one for you, or recommend them and when they receive it they will have the option to create a recommendation for you. Make sure you ask someone who you’ve worked with and who know you well.

Education/Past Positions and Experience:

Only include relevant information.  You do not need to go into great detail about education or past positions that do not relate to network marketing.

Websites:

Again if possible, avoid putting your company-replicated website here. It does not set you apart or make you unique or valuable to others. Again it is best to have a generic website, like a blog or landing page offering a solution to common network marketer’s problems.

Promoting your opportunity and/or your businesses products or services will come with time after you have established trust. If you vomit this information too early on in the relationship, your connections will run very quickly away from you. (Please refer to the Attraction Marketing page on my blog for more information on this concept and how to avoid this from happening).

Summary:

This is where you will speak of your value to others, or your Unique Selling Proposition (why would someone want to learn from you or work with you?). This is where you will also discuss your intent for being on LinkedIn. Include your story or your why for being in network marketing. You want others to personally relate to you on this common level.

Adding Contacts:

This is clearly where LinkedIn differs from Facebook. You need to qualify how you know someone before you add them. Categories to pick from are;  collegue, classmate, done business together, friend, other (in which you will need to add the potential connection’s personal email address). One thing to remember when you are accepting connections from others, once they are connected to you, they have access to your entire network of connections. So make sure you are comfortable with this.

Here are some things to keep in mind when communicating with your connections:

*Do not give your website link when you initiate a connection. Add a personal message and identify something you have in common and why you want to connect with them.

*Add about 30 new connections per day.

*Share how long you’ve been in network marketing, your goals, your struggles and initiate questions back that would lead to more interaction from them.

Wall posts:

Post often since when you update your status, it will show up on your connection’s walls each time. Link it to your Twitter account and it will automatically tweet your status to your twitter followers. Create curiosity and intrigue, but make it short and to the point (140 character max). Make sure your message is relevant to your audience and somewhat professional in nature.

Groups:

Once you’ve added your personal connections, you can further connect with others via groups. Make sure you pick groups with a common interest. When you search for a group, it is keyword-driven, so you can search network marketing or MLM, etc. Sometimes the administrator needs to approve your request before you can be a member. Once you are a member, you can go to the main group page, go to the ‘more’ drop-down menu and choose ‘members’. From here you can message a particular individual and ask to connect. Since you are both members of that same group, they are automatically available to connect with you if they choose.

You can also post relevant and informative content in the “Discussion” section of each group. This is where I include any new blog post content I create. It should be of value to other network marketers. I usually give a link to my blog where they can view more information and recommendations. Do not just put affiliate links or links to your business opportunity in these discussion posts, it looks spammy and is not professional and could possibly get you banned from the group.

On a side note: I have found one group where I have been able to post information about my primary MLM company’s services, it was a local group called “I Got What You Want”. Search around and you may find an appropriate group for your service or product promotion.

Create a Group:

There are several benefits to creating your own group on LinkedIn:

*It will brand you as a leader in your niche.

*You will connect like-minded individuals who can learn from one another.

*It will drive traffic to your website.

*It will build your personal network as others will invite you to connect with them.

*You will be able to send weekly messages to your member’s in-boxes for free.

*You will be able to create an auto-responder email. Group managers can send out a welcome email directly to the member’s personal email inbox. From there you can invite them to your blog or website or to connect with you on your other social networking sites.

*You can create up to 10 sub-groups which allows you to target various locations (i.e. for invites to regional events) or sub-niches.

*You have complete control over the content posted and ability to delete members.

I hope this helps you understand how to best utilize LinkedIn for your business. These are ways that can be utilized if you follow Attraction Marketing strategies. Refer to my Attraction Marketing page to better understand how to do this. Please don’t hesitate to comment or ask questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Also, if you found this information useful, please comment or share on your social media sites. Thanks!

Twitter Tools for Business Building-Part 2

Twitter Tools for Business Building Part 2This is Part 2 of Twitter Tools for Business Building.

The best way to implement Twitter for lead generation is to first build a reputation as a trusted source of information or being seen as an expert in a particular subject-while simultaneously building relationships and remaining personal and approachable.

Pushing out one way marketing messages about your business isn’t going to work, people won’t listen. You must ask questions, be personal, and engage others naturally within the community.

Once you are the source of value and have earned their trust, you can then offer information about your business opportunity or service or affiliate products. Your followers now trust that whatever you recommend is going to be beneficial to them or their business. But only tweet these paying offers sparingly.

Also, a good technique is to do a series of tweets leading up to your offer or product or business opportunity. Intrigue them and peak their interest for a few days before you tweet your paying offer. (See Social Oomph post about scheduling your tweets).

OK, on to some more third party Twitter tools that you will find useful.

Twitter Tools for Business Building Part 2TweetDeck-

This is a desktop application which allows users to filter and group their own and others’ tweets. It can simplify things by separating the people you follow into groups that show up as columns on your screen—for instance, you might see one column for friends, one for prospects, one for co-workers, etc.  So if you are having multiple conversations, they will be much easier to follow in TweetDeck .

It also includes tracking tools that allow you to streamline functions like replying to multiple users at once.

You can add multiple Twitter accounts or LinkedIn, Facebook and MySpace accounts.

The iPhone version was released on June 16, 2009.

Twitter Tools for Business Building Part 2TwitPic -

This is a website that allows users to easily post pictures to Twitter.

If you have a Twitter account, you already have a TwitPic account automatically.

Comments to photographs are sent as a reply tweet.

Twitpic URLs are already short, making it unnecessary to use URL shortening.

You upload your picture via your phone, an iPhone app, or through a Web interface — and TwitPic posts a link to the picture to your Twitter account. So when you tweet it, it shows up as a shortened URL with your message. When users click the link they will be taken to your TwitPic profile to view it.

Twitter Tools for Business Building Part 2Bit.ly-

This is a URL shortner that can post directly to Twitter.

If you share a lot of links on Twitter, bit.ly makes it a fast process by letting you shorten the URL and post to Twitter within the same screen.

You can post to multiple Twitter accounts using one bit.ly account.

Bit.ly lets you attach a brief code to the shortened URL, which then allows you to track how many people click on the link. You can also see more-detailed information about those users, such as the country where they’re located and the time of day they clicked.

Day 3 of my Twitter Tools for Business Building series will discuss 3 online strategies that will help manage your online Twitter reputation by tracking what others are saying about you as well as locate keyword-targeted fellow twitters.

If you found this information useful, please share this on your social media.

Twitter Tools For Business Building-Social Oomph

Twitter Tools For Business Building Social OomphTwitter is an extremely effective tool for free marketing and lead generation for your business. This is the first part of my 3 part series in which I will be writing about various third-party Twitter Tools which will help maximize exposure to your blog and your business. Whether you are a novice  or veteran Twitter-er, you will find your favorite tool and easily be able to implement it into your marketing efforts.

So on to Strategy #1….

Social Oomph (formerly tweetlater)-This is an incredible way to save time and boost your Twitter productivity by scheduling your tweets.

Some of the features I especially liked and that are included in the FREE version of this service are:

  • Schedule Tweets: Plan, set & Forget It! Like an autoresponder, you can keep your Twitter and StatusNet streams ticking over with new tweets even when you’re not in front of your computer. Publish tweets when you know your international followers are online and you’re asleep. An effective scheduling strategy is to prepare a series of tweets that lead up to a link you want your followers to click through.
  • Save and Re-Use Drafts: Save draft tweets, frequently used text snippets and URLs and reuse them in your scheduled tweets. Save tons of time by avoiding repetitive typing. Save a draft once and use it as a template for updates on Twitter and StatusNet accounts.
  • Send DM’s (Direct Messages) to new followers: Automatically send a nice non-promotional DM to new followers that focus on them and your future interaction with them, or simply to thank them for choosing to follow you.
  • URL shortening: This is an in-house URL shortening service, dld.bz, in which you can track the clicks on your shortened links, and get all kinds of useful and insightful click statistics.
  • Follow Those Who Follow You: Automatically follow people who follow you and save a ton of time while your Friends list builds itself.
  • Un-Follow Those Who Un-Follow You: Automatically unfollow someone when they unfollow you if that is how you prefer to manage your Friends list.
  • View @Mentions & Retweets: With more than one Twitter or StatusNet account it can become a real chore to keep track of your @mentions and everyone who has retweeted your tweets. They make it a breeze by showing your @mentions and/or retweets for all your accounts on one page, in one integrated timeline. Yes, that’s correct, you see your StatusNet tweets integrated with your Twitter tweets.
  • Private Tweet Viewing/Grouping Channels: With predefined tweet channels, you can view the tweets from selected breaking news sites, technology news sites, etc. grouped together for easy viewing of tweets that relate to a specific topic.

There is also a Professional version for the more advanced users of Twitter and who want to take this free marketing strategy even further.

This Pro version includes managing features of all your social accounts including a Facebook and ping.fm integration module, as well as your blog. Another very nice feature of Pro is that you are able to find quality friends to follow by using keywords and further organize and filter these friends. You can discover which of your friends is that special “power follower”  that has the most clout. It also has SPAM control, ability to manage several accounts and many other features.

The Pro version has a monthly fee of $29.97. However, there is also a 7-day free trial of the Pro version if you wanted to test drive it.

One other nice thing about Social Oomph is that they have an affiliate program that you can become a part of even if you sign up for the free account.

So I looked up the definition of  ‘oomph’, and it is actually a real word meaning ‘spirited vigor’ or ‘sex appeal’. So I thought it would be appropriate to say, “Get out there and get your Twitter Oomph on!”

Social Media-the New Way of Doing Business

Social Media the New Way of Doing BusinessI am sure it may come as no surprise to you that social media is here to stay and many brick and mortar businesses are turning frantically to it to market and build relationships with their current customers as well as winning over new customers.

Network marketing businesses are no exception. In fact, what better way to “network” than to do it where millions of people are already hanging out. Here are the facts:

  • 70 million users are on LinkedIn
  • 200 million active users on Facebook
  • 75 million users on Twitter
  • 200 billion videos are watched on YouTube per day

Not only is it a great way to reach millions of people, but when done right social media allows for attracting a targeted, highly qualified audience at which point you can continue building a relationship over time. And that, I feel, is the beauty of social media.

We need to meet people where they are at and build a relationship with them there. They are on Facebook catching up with old friends. They are on YouTube watching that funny video that has gone viral. They are on Twitter tweeting what they had for breakfast.  And they are on LinkedIn updating their work experience so recruiters can find them.

Go where your prospect is, and engage with them naturally, get to know them and talk about relevant topics. Identify what you have in common, share some personal information so you appear more human and not some spam-bot.

If there is one thing I could teach you, it would be this…..NEVER, EVER lead with your business opportunity or products and services. When you first meet someone at a party, you wouldn’t immediately share something which would require them to sign up under you and pay you money, would you? Meeting someone new on social media is no different. Take the necessary time to establish a relationship and build trust before you delve into your opportunity. People will take you much more seriously.

So I cannot stress to you enough that if you aren’t on social media yet or if you aren’t using it to to it’s best advantage, then you really are missing out on some amazing opportunities to connect with highly qualified prospects.

In a few days I will be sharing some specific strategies for doing social media marketing right for your network marketing business, so stay tuned!
